In Support of Our Neighbors: MLK Family Service Day
This year’s MLK Family Service Day was a success, thanks to the dedication and collaboration of the entire C&C community. Together, we packed over 350 lunch bags filled with heartfelt messages and paper flowers, baked 850 homemade cookies, and assembled more than 400 toiletry gift bags—each one making a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors.Led by the Xs with passion and care, the day embodied the spirit of service. Students and families worked side by side, assembling donations, creating care packages, and embracing the opportunity to give back. In the afternoon, Dawn Bauer (XIIs Teacher) and the Community Outreach team delivered these gifts to The Red Door Place, where they were received with deep gratitude. One guest, Addison, was so moved by the students' kindness that they created a drawing reading, "Thank you for making my life easier," a testament to the impact of our collective effort (photos used with permission).
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Xs students, their teachers—Gee, Megan, and Cate—their families, and the many parent volunteers, faculty, and staff who contributed their time and resources. Special appreciation goes to the behind-the-scenes efforts of our operations, kitchen, lobby, and grounds teams, ensuring a seamless and welcoming event. As we celebrate this day of service, we are also pleased to share that The Red Door Place has reopened, serving our neighbors twice a week. We look forward to continuing this tradition of giving and hope to see you at next year’s MLK Family Service Day. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us, “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve.” |
