XIIs Lead the Way: Fall Feast-in-a-Bag Drive 2024

The XIIs are taking the reins for this year’s Fall Feast-in-a-Bag Drive, a cherished C&C tradition that highlights service learning and community impact. From November 13–22, students, staff, and families are gathering food items to create over 250 meal bags for our neighbors in partnership with The Red Door Place.

Leadership in Action

The XIIs are hosting the drive with full ownership, from planning to execution. Their impact is already felt across the community. During the Harvest Festival, they helped attendees decorate Fall Feast bags and craft paper flowers for The Red Door Place’s meal service. On November 16, the XIIs and XIIIs co-hosted The Red Door Place’s sit-down Fall Feast, serving 393 guests while assisting with setup, serving, and engaging with attendees.

This service learning project also includes exercises that help the XIIs better understand the challenges of food insecurity. They calculated their family’s maximum SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits and used this budget to shop at Lincoln Market, @lincolnmarketny, for a week’s worth of groceries. These activities, part of their collaboration with The Red Door Place, @thereddoorplace, highlight the realities faced by those who are food insecure while deepening their understanding of community support. Additionally, the XIIs are educating younger students about the importance of food access and resource sharing.

This week, the XIIs are leading the sorting and counting of daily donations. Their work will culminate in preparing the “feast bags” for distribution:

  • November 25: The XIIs will organize and decorate over 250 meal bags.
  • November 26: The bags will be distributed to The Red Door Place guests.
