Debate Wins November Invitational

On November 9, 2024, City and Country School earned the prestigious School Award at the English-Speaking Union's New York Debate League November Invitational, hosted by Packer Collegiate. The School Award recognizes the school with the highest winning percentage.

A total of 165 students in 47 teams from 10 schools competed. City and Country's three teams—Abigail, Katya, and Penelope; Sarah, Freya, and West; and Gia and Iyla—each won three of their four debates, giving C&C a decisive 9-3 record. The Salk School of Science and The Speyer School placed second and third, respectively.

Each of C&C’s teams finished in the top ten, with three students earning individual honors:

  • Freya received an honorable mention individual speaker award.
  • Sarah ranked fourth overall in individual speaker awards.
  • West placed third overall and was the top speaker from City and Country.

The topics debated included:

  • "Humanities education is more important than STEM education"
  • "Police unions do more harm than good"
  • "Credit cards do more harm than good"

Congratulations to our team for their hard work and commitment. Their next tournament is on December 14, 2024.
